Since 1/1/11 I have been describing what I see in the back yard. I occasionally digress.

Rain
The rain began in the night and continued off-and-on through most of the day. It was mostly gentle except in the late morning when the sky got quite dark. Toward evening a little sun slipped under the clouds. Bluebirds wanted breakfast but the dishes were covered because of the rain. They settled for seeds but had to wait on a cardinal. A Carolina wren preferred suet but also took seeds. The mockingbird pair perched together on the suet cage. At lunchtime a brown headed nuthatch visited the seed feeder. Then the red bellied woodpecker with the patchy forehead had seeds. A squirrel did his best to rob the feeders but the counterweight protected the seeds and hot pepper the suet.
