The overnight temperature almost dropped to freezing and, despite the sunshine, the day never got very warm. The pine warbler returned along with chickadees and titmice. The birds were puffed up very round against the cold. Dry leaves snowed out of the trees. A squirrel spoke a lot of tail language. The beautyberries lost some color and all their leaves. As I was driving, I saw starlings attempt a small
murmuration. Shadows were long by 3pm.
