The Canada geese continued to try to sneak their goslings past us to the grass seed. The titmice continued to stuff themselves and the downy woodpecker dropped by. A hummer visited its feeder. I could see the blur of the house wren coming and going. A mockingbird perched in the beautyberry. A yellow rumped warbler in summer finery perched on the post. Probably it wintered South of here and was on its way back North.
There were sprinkles around 1:30 and a real downpour about 2:30 and sunshine by 4pm. The geese kept coming. Once when I shooed them I heard the wren cussing at me. The titmice kept coming back too. When a cardinal chased a pair of finches off the feeder, they landed on the wet step railing.
