A West wind blew rain through around 7:30am but afterward it brightened. It felt warmer outside than in, but much damper. A pelican, a heron, and a cormorant flew over the creek. Lots of feeder birds came to breakfast. The suet attracted downy woodpeckers, chickadees, titmice, and a pine warbler. More titmice tried to get the seed feeder regulars to share. On the ground, white throats, juncos and a dove were joined by a squirrel. A Carolina wren stopped in briefly.
During lunch a big flock of geese poured off a neighbor's yard into the creek. Of course they had to discuss whatever set them off. We saw three crows chasing a hawk high and far off. Then a long tailed hawk shot across our yard, only a couple of feet above the grass. I don't know whether it was a Cooper's or a sharp shin but the behavior fit a Coopers. It may be why the feeders were deserted. Eventually the juncos reappeared.
Clouds streamed out of the Southwest, making the sunshine intermittent. Bees were out hunting nectar.
