Warm and windy

Woodpeckers were hungry for suet.  The downy pair traded off with the red bellied female.  Sparrows scurried on the patio.  A squirrel got into the mealworms I scattered. Later the butterbutt took over the suet. Honeybees fought the wind to reach the rosemary flowers.

Out on the creek, two pair of hooded mergansers fished. A couple of gulls swooped over them looking for an opportunity to steal lunch.  Meanwhile squirrels frolicked on the grass.  Suddenly a hawk sailed through, turning sideways to slip through the trees.  One squirrel froze on the tree trunk but I think the hawk may have been after a bird.

The afternoon got progressively darker and rain began around sunset, not that we could see the sun set.
