Yesterday's rain washed most of the color from the trees. The day did not look very promising at breakfast. The birds seemed to agree. Finally the male oriole arrived about 8:30am. I left for a meeting and the sky cleared as the morning progressed.
When I got home, a downy woodpecker was dithering about whether to venture out to the suet. A bit later a female pine warbler did land on the suet only to be chased off by a male. Nuthatches also visited. The regulars had seeds. The oriole returned for mealworms and jelly.
Juncos appeared in the afternoon. A Carolina wren gobbled mealworms. A couple of squirrels got all hot and bothered, but I guess she wasn't quite ready. The first quarter moon hung overhead as sunset kindled streaky clouds in the West.
