Damp, then hot, then windy

The windows were fogged again till around 8:30am.  Then I saw a female goldfinch and shortly after, a Carolina wren.  A hummer fed and fed and kept watch from the dogwood.  A squirrel ventured out on the sunflower to gnaw at the seeds.

Butterflies were out in force at lunch.  A red spotted purple took a drink while a cloudless sulphur headed out across the creek.  Skippers were everywhere and I saw all three species of swallowtail.  A blue dasher showed up proving there are still dragonflies around.  A small blue tailed skink meandered around the patio.

In the afternoon a wind from the ENE dried the air and made the heat more comfortable.  It brought clouds that intermittently blocked the sun and thus dropped the temperature.  Butterflies struggled to fly, including more painted ladies.  Big bumblebees worked on the rosemary.  But all I found in the pool was a beetle.  Cast exoskeletons from stink bugs were plentiful. A buzzard soared low over us.  Tufted titmice joined chickadees on the seed feeder.  The hummers drank theirs dry and K refilled it.
