Rainy day

The wind was only breezy, though still out of the Northeast.  Bees made an early start on the morning glories.  Lots of birds braved the light rain that began around 9am: three doves, two titmice, maybe four hummers, and three goldfinches   I glimpsed a male downy woodpecker and a male eastern towhee missing tail feathers.  Two of the hummers appeared new to the area and unfamiliar with the feeder, and they did not fuss at each other.  Another crop of fledgling house finches begged.  Cardinals varied their diet with dogwood and beauty berries.  The squirrel with the white spot showed up just as a began to worry about not seeing her.  The clouds made the morning too dark for good pictures.

The towhee was back for dinner.  The showers continued off-and-on but no water accumulated in the birdbath. Dreary.
