Aftermath

Along with leaf litter everywhere, a large oak limb came down on the irises.  The morning had glimmers of sun and sprinkles of rain, occasionally at the same time.  Hummers showed up as soon as the feeder was rehung.  A female downy woodpecker and at least three titmice competed with the regulars for seeds.  I put fresh mealworms out and a blue jay must have been watching me.  A red spotted purple and a black swallowtail reappeared from wherever they sheltered.

The noonday tide was over the dock again though the wind calmed down to a breeze.  A blue tailed skink ventured out to warm up on the concrete.  More butterflies appeared - a gray hairstreak, a buckeye, a cloudless sulphur, and three kinds of swallowtail.   A cicada killer slowed down to look at the steps  and I dashed out of the pool and snatched up the camera but only got one shot.

The dam outfall stayed busy with egrets and others.  I saw a juvenile night heron and possibly little green and little blue herons.  The hummer battles continued.  A very loud three-note call turned out to be a wren.  A goldfinch arrived just as it began to rain yet again.  He had to compete with a whole flock of house finches.  A couple of doves didn't stay long.
