The weather pattern was summer-like with thunderstorms in the afternoon, but the temperature dropped from mellow to a definitely unsummerlike chill. Still none of the more alarmist predictions, like hail, materialized. A starling had just settled in on the suet when the male red bellied woodpecker asserted ownership and kicked the starling out. Then the next wave of storms barreled through.
Since 1/1/11 I have been describing what I see in the back yard. I occasionally digress.

More storms
A male hummer checked out the feeder and said, no, so I hustled a fresh one out, but if he or any others sampled it, I missed them. The Carolina wren pair were happier with their choices. A female bluebird worked on the suet.
