Foraging and fishing

There was plenty of rain and wind overnight but the sky began to clear in the morning.  Drops on the windows ruined the focus on too many photos.  The little flock of juncos were busy foraging and trying for a turn at the seed feeder.  Downy woodpeckers nearly finished off the suet.  They'll need a fresh brick tomorrow.  Red breasted nuthatches hit the feeder so fast I had to be focused and waiting with finger on the shutter button.  That meant I got lots of pictures of their rear ends.

Cormorants chased a school of fish and at one point seemed to be cooperating to circle around them.  A great blue heron watched from the neighbors' floating dock.  Mallards paddled through eddies of leaf meal floating on the creek.  I glimpsed a female hoodie but vegetation got in the way.  An egret glided on the wind.  The sky clouded over in the afternoon, pulling up a blanket for a chilly night ahead.
