Since 1/1/11 I have been describing what I see in the back yard. I occasionally digress.

Still cold
Morning was overcast and the cold brought out hungry birds. They looked puffy as they used their feathers to trap warm air. Bluebirds chose bark butter balls, pine and yellow rumped warblers picked suet, and juncos went after sunflower seeds. Of course, the downy woodpeckers wanted suet too. A Carolina wren worked on the suet as well. A mockingbird alighted on top of the post, then poked around on the ground. Both brown headed and red breasted nuthatches wanted sunflower seeds. Out on the creek there were buffleheads and pelicans. The sun came out in the late morning.
