The predicted rain never appeared and a fierce sun sent the afternoon temperature into the high 90s which was a shock after two cool, wet days. There were clouds and around 6pm they looked like a storm brewing, but they moved quickly East. High, thin clouds created a spectacular sunset.
I was away much of the day and didn't have time to watch wildlife till quite late. Convoys of geese paddled downstream. An egret flew over. I rescued brown scarab and black ground beetles from the water. A carpenter bee feasted on the lavender and a crane fly got into the house. Supper brought out a dove, a Carolina wren, and a hummingbird.
