Rain was not in the forecast but we had a downpour after lunch. Huge drops fell and the sun continued to shine. Everything dried quickly and wildlife returned.
A palamedes swallowtail repeatedly teased me but never stayed still for a photo. The cardinals were
still courting. Even so, he has begun to molt. Hummers were still battling over the feeder, and growing more aggressive with the bigger birds. Several skinks hustled along on their business. As I was getting ready to leave, the male goldfinch visited the ant moat, like a commuter stopping off at a bar on the way home.
